Analysis

The Geoeconomic Interconnectivity Index (GEOII) report provides the first comprehensive and comparative measurement of how the European Union, the United States, China, and Russia are economically connected to the EU’s neighbourhood. Drawing on 44 indicators across trade, finance, and policy, the report covers 21 neighbouring countries and tracks developments from 2010 to 2023.

This inaugural edition offers a detailed, comparative analysis of shifting geoeconomic influence in the region. It reveals both the EU’s enduring strengths and growing vulnerabilities — including areas where interconnectivity is weakening and strategic competitors are gaining ground. The GEOII is updated annually with new data. A new analytical report will follow every two years. You can download the full report below.
